To run the organization in a transparent manner and ensure full accountability, a transparent and accountable financial management system is in adopted at organizational and community levels in all activities. For the CARAVAN own accounts, a complete audit reporting is available. Continuous auditing of the organization is a routine business.
The Board authorizes joint bank account signatories for its’ financial transactions. Separate bank accounts are opened and statements prepared for specific projects of different donors.
As finances play an important role in any organizations’ management strength. Therefore,with out loosing the set financial rules, the legal requirements and the contractual obligations, the NGO management endeavors is to run the financial affairs of the organization in such a way that maximum flexibility is exercised to facilitate the program staff in achieving its’ objectives and targets well in time.
Though, the basic approach is to be less dependent , still efforts will be made to get technical and financial support from donors to take the organization agenda forward to achieve its goals.
This was an approach, full of challenges on one hand but learning on the other. The approach has been proved a successful replicable model of community participation and ownership in the development activities, a real Civil Society empowerment phenomenon.
This network will be further expanded to get more NGOs registered with. CARAVAN has been one of the pioneers of this idea.
